They both had to contend with directions and limits put forth by superiors in the hierarchy, both politicians and civil servants, and pressure from their employees and clients. The interviews also showed that the managers felt there were a difference between being a manager, an operational position, and a leader, an acquired social position. The results from the interviews fell in line with the theses put forward by Stefan Tengblad about management work in his book The Work of Managers: Towards a Practice Theory of Management.
