Abstract
This Bachelor thesis is assigned to interpret and visualize the degree of contamination and degradation of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAH) in relationship with groundwater chemistry and signals from geophysical surveys. The relationships between pollutant, chemistry data and geophysical surveys were tested through linear regression. By using the Swedish National Food Agency limits for drinking water quality will give a perspective to the degree and extension of the contamination.
As the results show the reducing groundwater conditions contribute in high extent to the degradation of PCE. In some areas of Färgaren 3 the total contamination concentration reaches 338180 µg/l. Nearby industrial activities and water source have great... (More)

As the results show the reducing groundwater conditions contribute in high extent to the degradation of PCE. In some areas of Färgaren 3 the total contamination concentration reaches 338180 µg/l. Nearby industrial activities and water source have great influence on the areas hydrogeological properties and the complex geology is affecting the sorption and transport of pollutants. Correlations have been made between geoelectrical signals, contaminants and chemical properties of the groundwater. But no strong relationships could be proven. The results also contain a discussion of the benefits of remediation in aspect of its environmental impact.
The groundwater analysis data used in this thesis has been collected from the Transparent Underground Structure (TRUST) research group and are mainly results from the investigations made by contract environmental consultants. Data was summarized in an excel-based database along with well information based on well logs. For visualization I have found much use of the Voxler 3 software and ArcGIS-suite for visualization and evaluation of contaminant spread and degradation. (Less)
