- Abstract
- The study has focused on identifying high risk areas for phosphorus leakage in the catchment of river Hörbyån. Also what kind of measures that can be taken to reduce the leakage at different sites in the catchment have been investigated. The highest phosphorus leakage in the south of Sweden come from agricultural areas, where the dominating transport is erosion and runoff. Some of the factors influencing the leakage of phosphorus are land use, topography, the presence of drainage and grain size. These factors were used in a field study along the river Hörbyån to identify the high risk areas for phosphorus leakage. In order to point out the high risk areas, the results from the field study and data collected from ArcGIS 10 were weighted... (More)

In order to point out the high risk areas, the results from the field study and data collected from ArcGIS 10 were weighted with different weighting factors.
The weighting results in combination with phosphorus concentrations, from measurements by Algae Be Gone!, show that three out of five areas in the catchment of river Hörbyån have a possible high risk for phosphorus leakage. The high risk of leakage from the areas depend on the high frequency of crop land, the lack of buffer zones along the river, a straightening of the watercourse and the presence of clay as the dominating soil type. For the high risk areas, measures such as wetlands, buffer zones and meandering have been proposed to be implemented to reduce the leakage of phosphorus from the sites. (Less)
