Abstract (Swedish)
The purpose of this study was to illustrate the issues that appear when you as an expert have to generate an unbiased truth about a country that you later will have someone else to interpret. We investigated how the public authority Migrationsverket obtains country of origin information and how they later on use that information when basing their decisions on asylum cases. To manage that, we used four theories about officials and their different roles and tied with the empirical material of interviews and statistic data. Even though our hypothesis about quantity of sources being the major factor fell short in our statistical analysis, we managed to strike two main conclusions. One of the conclusions were that there are certain problems... (More)

Even though our hypothesis about quantity of sources being the major factor fell short in our statistical analysis, we managed to strike two main conclusions. One of the conclusions were that there are certain problems with obtaining information because of the difficulty of being objective, and the other that there are certain problems with using the information - where professional officials’ blurry guidelines are a part of the complexity.
