- Abstract (Swedish)
Tio intervjupersoner rekryterades. (More)

- Abstract
- The aim for this study was to examine experiences of recovery from psychosis in persons with such experiences, recruited in a non-psychiatric context. The research question was stated as follows: How is the process of recovery from psychosis described by people with a personal experience of psychosis? This is a descriptive phenomenological study based on Amedeo Giorgi’s method. Ten persons were recruited. Open interviews were recorded and transcribed. A phenomenological analysis was performed from which six invariant structures emerged: Attitudes towards recovery, Meeting psychiatry, Factors promoting recovery, Factors obstructing recovery, Stigma and The psychosis in retrospective. Promoting factors were associated with sense making... (More)

Promoting factors were associated with sense making conversations about the experiences and fellowship with others. Among obstructing factors were negative experiences from the interaction with and treatment by the psychiatric care institutions and stigma. One implication of this study is that persons who have suffered from psychosis have the notion that their own ideas of what recovery is about isn’t shared by people in their surrounding world and psychiatric care.
