- The Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations is a Nordic security cooperation, which started in 2012, at the Lifeguards in Stockholm. Gender has not been a part of the military discourse for a very long time, and some believe that it should not be now either. Hence, the Center challenges the traditional view of the military and its tasks. - The Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations is a Nordic security cooperation, which started in 2012, at the Lifeguards in Stockholm. Gender has not been a part of the military discourse for a very long time, and some believe that it should not be now either. Hence, the Center challenges the traditional view of the military and its tasks. The purpose of this study is to investigate the Center’s view on how a gender perspective has a role within military operations. This is done through interviews with three people working at the Center. Course control documents from the center is also examined, together with examples from a book with practical experiences from operations. A feminist perspective on security has been used to outline the study and to interpret the material. The result shows that the gender perspective is considered important to enhance operational effectiveness, with the aim of solving security problems in today’s international context, with minimal negative effect on the local population. Also, the gender perspective should permeate all activities and be a natural part of how conflicts are analyzed. The center also emphasized long term goals of equality, everybody’s equal rights to have their security needs met and the possibility to participate in the peacemaking process. From a feminist perspective on security, focus on human security is viewed as vital for understanding and solving conflicts. Consequently, the view represented at the center is an important foundation for advancing a feminist security agenda within the Armed Forces. (Less)

Genus har inte varit en del av den militära diskursen väldigt länge och flera anser att den inte behöver bli det heller. Gendercentret utmanar således den traditionella synen på militären och dess uppgifter. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur Gendercentrets ser på genusperspektivets roll i militära operationer. Detta görs genom att intervjua tre medarbetare på Gendercentret. I studien granskas även dokument med kursmål från centret, och exempel ges ur en bok med praktiska erfarenheter från operationer. Ett feministiskt perspektiv på säkerhet har använts för att utforma studien och tolka materialet. Resultatet av studien visade att genusperspektivet ansågs viktigt för att öka den operationella effektiviteten i syfte att lösa säkerhetsproblem i dagens internationella kontext, med så liten negativ effekt på lokalbefolkningen som möjligt. Dessutom bör genusperspektivet genomsyra all verksamhet och utgöra en naturlig del av hur konflikter analyseras. Från Gendercentrets sida handlade det även om långtgående mål om jämställdhet, samt allas lika rättigheter att få sina säkerhetsbehov tillgodosedda och ha möjlighet att delta i fredsskapande processer. Ur ett feministiskt perspektiv på säkerhet, ses fokus på mänsklig säkerhet och jämställdhet vid konfliktlösning som centralt för att kunna förstå och lösa konflikter. Därför är den synen som representeras vid Gendercentret en viktig grund för att kunna främja en feministisk säkerhetsagenda i Försvarsmakten. (Less)
