Abstract (Swedish)

Inga signifikanta demografiska... (More)

(Less)
Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine estimated pain, hoarseness and discomfort in the throat of patients who had gone through thoracic surgery and had been intubated using video- or direct laryngoscopi. The hypothesis was that the estimated throat problems of patients who had been intubated using videolaryngoscopi would be less than that of those who had been intubated using direct laryngoscopi.

Method: This prospective survey had 105 participants who had gone through thoracic surgery at the thoracic clinic in Lund. The survey questions were asked by the staff before surgery and approximately two hours after extubation using a questionnaire designed for the study.

Results: Of the 105 participants 46 were intubated... (More)

Results: Of the 105 participants 46 were intubated using videolaryngoscopi and 59 using direct laryngoscopi. No significant demographic differences could be seen between the groups and no difference regarding throat problems.

Conclusion: No significant difference regarding throat problems could be seen between the groups based on method of intubation. However, this could have been the result of methodologic shortcomings. (Less)
