Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the severity of physical or psychological intimate partner violence was assessed differently, depending on whether the violence is self-experienced or communicated. Gender aspects were also considered in the study.
The study was conducted in two stages, in which participants in the first study was or had been in a relationship that lasted for at least six months. In this study, participants were describing two events with elements of psychological and physical violence, and estimated the severity of the intimate partner violence based on subjective assessment. In the second study, newly recruited participants assessed the severity of the stories that was collected in the previous study.

The results showed that participants in the second study assessed physical violence more severely than participants from the first study. However, there was no difference in the assessment of severity of psychological violence between the first and second study. Male offenders were assessed slightly higher than female offenders. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
Även genusaspekter togs i beaktning i studien.
