Abstract
The labor market and work related attributes are gender segregated. The current experimental research investigates to what extent threat to gender identity affects adolescents’ job attribute preferences. Swedish high school students (N = 263; 50 % girls) were exposed to either a threat to the distinctiveness of their gender group or to no threat at all and then rated their in-terest in gender stereotyped job attributes. The result revealed a marginally significant interac-tion effect that supported the main hypothesis. When exposed to threat, female students showed more interest to female stereotyped job attributes. Male students, on other hand, showed less interest to female stereotyped job attributes when exposed to threat. As expected,... (More)

Male students, on other hand, showed less interest to female stereotyped job attributes when exposed to threat. As expected, the results also showed that female students rated female stereotyped job attributes higher than male students. In contrast to previous research, the results showed that female stereo-typed job attributes are slightly higher rated overall. (Less)
