- Abstract
- Four runic, Proto-Nordic inscriptions in the province of Blekinge have long attracted attention because of their similarities and because of the proper, alliterating names occurring in three of them. This paper means to explore the social context of these four rune stones and the possibilities of finding evidence for an élite clan or family living in the vicinity of the rune stones during the 6th-7th centuries, by analyzing the proper names of the inscriptions and their animal symbolism, place names, archaeological findings and the landscape surrounding the rune stones. - Fyra runstenar från 600-talet i Blekinge, Stentoftenstenen, Gummarpstenen och Istabystenen på Listerlandet, och Björketorpstenen vid Johannishusåsen, har med sina inskrifter med den äldre runraden på urnordiska väckt stort intresse. Inskrifternas tre personnamn, HeruwulfR, HariwulfR och HaðuwulfR har förmodats tillhöra en mäktig släkt som från Listerlandet kan ha vidgat sina domäner till mellersta Blekinge, vid Johannishus. Uppsatsen syfte är att utreda vilka tecken som tyder på en sådan släkt, i själva inskrifterna och i det omgivande landskapet, samt att utforska hur landskapet och kommunikationsmöjligheterna mellan de två områdena och med omgivningarna kan ha sett ut vid runstenarnas tillkomst. Inskrifternas tre personnamn, HeruwulfR, HariwulfR och HaðuwulfR har förmodats tillhöra en mäktig släkt som från Listerlandet kan ha vidgat sina domäner till mellersta Blekinge, vid Johannishus. Uppsatsen syfte är att utreda vilka tecken som tyder på en sådan släkt, i själva inskrifterna och i det omgivande landskapet, samt att utforska hur landskapet och kommunikationsmöjligheterna mellan de två områdena och med omgivningarna kan ha sett ut vid runstenarnas tillkomst. Med andra ord är det en bild av runstenarnas sociala kontext som eftersträvas. Metoden har varit att med hjälp av runologi, filologi, personnamnsforskning, ortnamnsforskning och landskapsanalys bygga upp en 'thick description' som tillsammans ska ge mer kunskap för en tolkning. Resultatet blev att man kan konstatera att en elit med krigarideologi och rituella seder verkligen har haft makten på större delen av Listerlandet, att det vid Listerby också funnits en mäktig person eller släkt som haft långväga kontakter med handel och hantverk men att ingenting tyder på att dessa varit släkt med varandra. Däremot har en viss rekonstruktion av landskapsbilden visat att det funnits goda möjligheter till kommunikation mellan områdena och även ut från dessa, till sjöss via en segelled och på land via en flertusenårig kustlandsväg samt ett vägnät inåt landet, varför möjligheten finns att Björketorpstenens förbannelseformel, som är nästan identisk med den på Stentoftenstenen, på något sätt har förmedlats från den ena platsen till den andra. De tre allittererande personnamnen på Listerstenarna kan även kopplas till ett slags brödraskap av yngre män som under en period initieras i krigskonsten för att senare kunna upptas i en jordägande gemenskap. Fynd av ett båthus vid sjön Vesans strand kan tyda på att man haft tillgång till en mindre flotta. (Less)
