Abstract
Research show that rising sea levels and increased rainfall are expected to result in more floods in the future. The cellar is a place where many people store their most precious memories -things that insurance companies rarely can replace.

To identify the need we used interviews, surveys and discussions with several victims of floods. With a focus on the coastal cities in Scania we defined the need to protect belongings in cellars during flood. Through ideation, sketching, mock-ups and user tests we determined the shape and function of the product, and how and by whom the product should be used.

With a focus on the coastal cities in Scania we defined the need to protect belongings in cellars during flood. Through ideation, sketching, mock-ups and user tests we determined the shape and function of the product, and how and by whom the product should be used.

We wanted to play around with the idea of a waterproof storage that does not contain plastics, rubber or silicone -materials with a short lifespan. Inspired by the laws of physics we created a storage unit that does not rely on a traditional silicone frame to shut the water out. Instead an airpocket is formed whose volume blocks the water from entering.

The result is a waterproof storage shelf including five storage units in aluminum. While the product handles floods it also advocates organization in the cellar. (Less)
