- Abstract
- The title of this bachelor thesis is: ”The turban - A study of the Oriental fashion and the turban´s process of deorientalizing”. The Orient has fascinated Westerners for a long time, especially within the fashion industry. Ever since the first voyages of discovery, there has been a constant exchange of arts and culture between East and West. Oriental fashion can be defined as a fashion that draws inspiration from different parts and cultures of Asia. As a consequence of the integration of the Oriental fashion in the Western fashion it can be difficult to distinguish it. - The title of this bachelor thesis is: ”The turban - A study of the Oriental fashion and the turban´s process of deorientalizing”. The Orient has fascinated Westerners for a long time, especially within the fashion industry. Oriental fashion can be defined as a fashion that draws inspiration from different parts and cultures of Asia. From the analysis, it has been proven that the turban has undergone a transformation from dress and masquerade to fashion. A pattern which has been linked to a process of deorientalizing. The garment has in the thesis been used as an object for studying the interaction between East and West in fashion. Furthermore, the thesis has studied the significance of the contextual meaning within fashion as well as the globalization of the fashion system. (Less)
