Do they experience that the representation of Rosengård affects them in their identity? The analysis was based on perspec-tives that focus on the interaction between the individual and society. The conclu-sion was that all the youths experienced themselves to some extent affected by the misleading representation of their neighbourhood. Even though they found their housing estate as a source of security and community they also experienced it as a place that held them back in some domains in their lives as a result of its bad re¬pu-tation. Because of this bad reputation of Rosengård the youths felt they had to defend themselves in social interactions with people outside the neighbourhood. For this purpose the young people in the study used strategies e.g. developing skills within areas such as studies and sports. (Less)
