Abstract
With today’s focus on the world’s environmental issues, it is important for organizations and companies to find a way to give their commitment credibility. By certification according to ISO 14001 you get an internationally acknowledged brand that is recognized by organizations and companies worldwide. But the road to certification isn’t just easy, to be able to certify your environmental management system an environmental investigation, where the company’s environmental aspects are identified and evaluated, needs to be carried out. This report is of such an investigation.
Nordic door is an industrial company that manufactures industrial doors that are sold in both Sweden and many other parts of the world. The production is located at the company’s facilities in Halmstad, Halland, and it is at these facilities the investigation has been carried out. Environmental aspects such as waste, resource usage and material usage have been identified.
The company recycles most of its waste, and parts of their products are made from recycled material. The most prominent aspects though, are the products and the waste, maybe because the boundaries of the investigation meant that transports and travels was excluded.
Certification through ISO 14001 is not the best solution for the company today, as the investment might not stand in proportion to their customer’s demands, but to apply the principals of the standard would be useful for the environment and the business. A long-term work with the implementation of an environmental management system will benefit the company and make it prepared for a certification in the future. (Less)
