- Abstract
- The main purpose of this paper is to find if there are any differences between the two Scandinavian countries Sweden and Denmark in help institutions for women in prostitution. Buying sexual services has been illegal in Sweden since 1999. There are no similar regulations in Denmark.
By employing a comparative study method, information from the two countries have been broken down through content analysis. Mathiesen’s manifest and latent functions where used to analyse the collected material followed by norm theory. The conclusion that forms in this research shows that there are both advantages and disadvantages to criminalize the buyers. In Denmark, the majority of the society has an open stand to prostitution. Women should freely choose whether they want help or not, if they want to stay in prostitution or not.
