- The study of the naturalization decision process have gained more attention in the field of economics and migration in recent years. This primarily relates to examining whether certain contextual and structural socioeconomic characteristics can explain the probability for immigrants of becoming citizens in their new country. The proposed hypotheses relates to the effect of socioeconomic characteristics together with an analysis of the introduction of pensions in 1891. The thesis finds that socioeconomic indicators, and the introduction of pensions, might be able to explain the timing of naturalization. However, future research should include more socioeconomic variables in order to establish the reliability of the results. (Less)
