This study aims to examine difficulties and possibilities when having a feminist or queer publishing company in Sweden. To reach that goal, I examine six different publishing companies that are or have been active on the Swedish publishing field during the last ten years. The material consists of six interviews with founders of or staff members at Normal förlag, Rosenlarv förlag, X-Publishing, Dockhaveri, Lesbisk Pocket and Charlie by Kabusa. Themes discussed in the analysis is knowledge and authenticity, exclusion from the feminist community, working in a non-profit and collective organization, working under stress for a long time, the economic situation as both problematic and creative, and finally community support and the joy and... The study is inspired by the works of Simone Murray and has her thesis Mixed Media as a theoretical base. One aspiration with my study is to collect and perpetuate knowledge and experiences concerning these companies that otherwise might be lost. In that sense, the study is only one of many short-stories in the big anthology about feminist and queer publishing. (Less)
