Children´s literature is one part of today´s marketplace that show progress in sales at the same time the panoply of entertainment for children is bigger than ever. The enormous popularity of tablets is evident as even the youngest children are using them. The availability of tablets and the wide range of apps for children are two main factors of the success. The children´s book app is one way for publishers to combine these areas of interest and this essay examines how they execute the adaptions. The chosen genre is the picture book, because of its unique structure and relationship between images and text. My question of interest is what happens in the transformation from printed book to a digitalized format and what does this alteration entail? By comparing six children´s books to their corresponding apps I find it evident that the biggest challenge is financial and that the publishing business is apprehensive in choosing one format over the other. After conducting this study I also believe that there are several opportunities of using apps in a combined manner with the printed book in the future. (Less)
