The purpose of this study was to analyze how six professionals who work within healthcare reasons about collaboration with other professionals within the network, in their work with pregnant and infant mothers with substance abuse. The study also has a focus on how professionals treat these women and how they experience the support given to these women to sustain parenting without alcohol and substance abuse.
To achieve our purpose we interviewed six professionals with different professions. We interviewed two social workers, two midwifes, one nurse and one social educationist. We used a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews because we wanted to know their thoughts and opinions. Our main result in the study were that it is important that professionals threat these women right because the relationship between them plays a big part in women`s attitudes to accept the support given to them. Another main result is that collaboration between the professional network is necessary but there tends to be flaws in the collaboration with the social services. Lastly the study showed that there is not enough support for these women to sustain parenting without alcohol and substance abuse this was shown was one of the reasons why these women fall between two stools.
