Abstract
Consumers today are much more mobile and are therefore eating out at restaurants much more than they used to do. These new consumer habits put greater demands on food businesses supplying safe food. In order to inform the consumers of the food businesses that have excellent food service, the city of Malmö introduced a reward system called Smiley.

The City of Malmö has previously conducted studies focusing on what consumers think about this system. To get a comprehensive picture of the reward system Smiley, I want to focus on what the operators themselves think about the system? Are there similar incentive systems and how does a reward system work? To answer these questions, I chose to carry out a survey and also made a literature study.... (More)

Are there similar incentive systems and how does a reward system work? To answer these questions, I chose to carry out a survey and also made a literature study.

There is currently no uniform reward system for Smiley in Sweden. Denmark and Finland have a Smiley systems whith happy and sad smileys. In Sweden, there are even more variations of the reward system Smiley. For example, Landskrona and Staffanstorp have implemented similar systems. Reward systems is based on what can actually be measured also gets done.

The respondents of the survey showed that around 61 percent believe that one can benefit from the reward system Smiley, but they did not want the sad smileys to be part of it. The majority who responded also believe that the system should exist nationally.

Having a common system would be easier for the consumers; it would mean having the same conditions for food businesses regardless of where in Sweden you are. A national system can also lead to more effective food control, which in turn would likely increase compliance. (Less)
Popular Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
