The purpose of this study is to lighten the phenomenon of cyberbullying based on the school counselors perspective by primarily investigate how they work in situations where there is cyberbullying . We have chosen to focus specifically on bullying on the Internet, because it is a relatively new phenomenon in comparison with the bullying that takes place in physical
environments, as for example school yards. With this study, we hoped to gain a wider insight into how the proffessional role of a school counselor looks like when students become victims of cyberbullying.
We have through a qualitative method, in form of interviews, done our investigation. We held six interviews with six different school counselors and which all are working in primary schools in southern Skåne.
The results of our study have shown that the school counselors that we have interviewed defines bullying in a similar way, but that their working methods concerning cyberbullying may differ to some extent. Our results show that this is mainly due to the phenomenon of bullying is relatively new, compared with bullying in the physical environment. The school curators were also found to have different ideas about themselves considered if they have sufficient resources and knowledge, or not, in order to deal with situations where students becomes victims of bullying on the Internet.
