Abstract
A voltage controlled galvanic simulator has been constructed for experiments on human balance. The aim is to gain knowledge about the human body's balancing behaviour and implementation for diagnostic purposes. The purpose is to stimulate the vestibular nerve in the inner ear, with a defined stimulus, measuring the resulting body sway, analysing the input and output signals with mathematical models, developed in control theory. The vestibular receptor organs and nerves are stimulated galvanically. Random current pulses, controlled by a computer program, are sent through by electrodes attached behind each ear. The lateral body sway is measured with a force plate, on which the person is standing with her/his feet forming a 30 degrees angle.... (More)
