Abstract
Skin ages as a result of the failure of several mechanisms that are triggered by both internal and external factors. The accumulation of damaged proteins is an effect that comes with age due to the dysfunction of the proteasomes and their decline in activity, which leads to dull looking skin. In addition, as we age the effects seen on are skin includes the formation of age spots as well as hyperpigmentated areas, that occur mainly from UV radiation stimulating the melanocytes to produce more melanin. By targeting pathways that lead to the increase of proteasome activity in skin cells as well as melanin content decline, we suggest that this can lead to a more radiant and uniform skin, benefits for consumers using specific skincare products.... Compound X is an innovative compound shown by Oriflame Cosmetics to help alleviate the signs of ageing through a number of processes. The aim of this study was to investigate whether compound X has additional biological activates on human skin cells by targeting proteasome activity, NRF2 gene expression and melanin production in human dermal fibroblasts and human epidermal melanocytes. Identification of these effects could potentially lead to new ingredient claims within detoxifying and skin lightning areas. The results showed that compound X increased the proteasome activity in human dermal fibroblasts after treatment, leading to possible detoxifying claims. When treating human epidermal melanocytes with compound X preliminary observations showed that the melanin content is being decreased but further investigations are needed in order to establish if skin lightning claims would be possible. Popular Abstract
Compound X is an innovative finding shown to have anti-aging effects on the skin. By applying this compound on the skin, the result is that skin does not sag as much. New results indicate that compound X might have detoxifying effects. In addition, it is well documented that as we age our skin tone can become quite uneven and compound X has the potential to improve ones skin tone.
