CONFLICT - An Earthquake Project
(2016) In Diploma work IDEM05 20161Industrial Design
- Abstract
- This master project has had the purpose of designing a protection or safety solution for earthquake disaster. Lack of the solutions for a night time earthquake scenario channeled this project to focus on a possible safety solution during sleep position. Other concerns of this project has been to understand human behaviour during panic situations and people’s relationship with the reality of a possible earthquake disaster. This thesis starts with discussing the historical background of the urbanism at developing countries based on the example of Turkey. The report includes interviews with earthquake victims, analysis of sleeping area, idea sketches, mock-ups and full scale models.
The end results of this project is an inflatable blanket... (More) - This master project has had the purpose of designing a protection or safety solution for earthquake disaster. The end results of this project is an inflatable blanket that helps the users to protect themselves from damaged or falling building materials during an earthquake. This blanket works in coordination with earthquake center through wi-fi connection if a high magnitude earthquake starts.
Reliability of the safety, material choice for daily life use, diminishing possible disturbance by earthquake anexiety, human behavior at panic situations and calming aesthetic features shaped the end result of this project. (Less)
