Abstract
The genocide in Cambodia has come to be known as one of the bloodiest in the modern history. During a period of only four years, 1975 – 1979, between 1,5 to 2 million people in the country was butchered. The responsible behind this slaughter was Khmer Rouge under leadership of Pol Pot. The focus for this paper is to make an analysis of the ideology that Khmer Rouge pledged for and test it empirically. Herbert Tingsten, Swedish professor in political science active in the 1930s developed a method and theory called in Swedish Idékritik, this as a response to the totalitarian ideologies of nazism, fascism and communism that where spreading across the European continent. Tingsten meant that every ideology contains a description of the reality... (More)

Tingsten meant that every ideology contains a description of the reality which up on it base its view on moral and the society. It´s this reality description of the ideology by Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge I will test against other historical sources with some complementary theoretical perspectives on ethics and morale. My conclusion is that their ideology is a mixture of ethnic Khmer nationalism, historical revisionism, anti-colonialism, Marxist-Leninism and pure myths which shows big incoherence. Thereby in the spirit of Tingsten do I dismiss it as not valid. (Less)
