- Abstract
- Throughout the past decades there has been an increased amount of disease outbreaks, which due to globalization has had the possibility to spread across the world. With the Ebola outbreak as a point of departure, this thesis will examine how the World Health Organization and the United Nations created a threat around this event.
To examine this topic, theoretical considerations based on the securitization theory and a theory regarding international organizations as an authority will be applied. These theories however fail to highlight the importance regarding the creation of identities and power structures, due to that this thesis also analyzed how the organizations created identities and power structures. Further, to accurately analyze the material, a frame analysis was incorporated into the analysis.
The results from the research indicate that UN and WHO created a threat regarding Ebola, but also that they created identities and power structures. It concludes that even if these two organizations represent the international community, the analyzed process differs between the two actors. (Less)
