Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Individuals with a criminal record have more difficulties getting a job than individuals with no previous conviction. For ex-convicts however, work is essential for their chances to get off the criminal path. Ex-offenders have a good chance of getting a job in the building industry, but not so good chances in getting a job in the commerce industry. Therefore the aim of this study is to compare if there are any differences in attitudes against ex-convicts as colleagues between those two industries. To examine this a survey was used that employees at different construction areas and in different boutiques answered. The survey also examined if any crimes are too serious to accept from a colleague and if previous experience in having... (More)

Therefore the aim of this study is to compare if there are any differences in attitudes against ex-convicts as colleagues between those two industries. To examine this a survey was used that employees at different construction areas and in different boutiques answered. The survey also examined if any crimes are too serious to accept from a colleague and if previous experience in having ex-convicts as colleagues will influence the individuals attitudes against them. The result showed no support of there being a difference in attitudes between the commerce industry (N = 46) and building industry (N = 37). It also showed that some crimes, such as murder, child abuse and rape, are too serious to even consider having a colleague that has committed such a crime. The results also showed that previous experience of ex-convicts do, to some extent, influence the attitudes against ex-convicts as co-workers in a positive way. From the result of this study, it seems that the difficulties that ex-convicts face on the labour market is placed higher up in the organisation, not among the attitudes of the co-workers. (Less)
