(2016) SKOK01 20161Department of Strategic Communication
- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- This study aims to understand how communication occurs on digital platforms. Using crowdfunding as empirical evidence, the study examines how investor relations are translated into the context of the sharing economy. The study uses a hermeneutical approach where empirical data is portrayed in a multi-case analysis. Qualitative interviews and a document analysis form the basis of the analysis, in which the empirical evidence is contextualised using theories and a model for building trust. The first part of the analysis describes how entrepreneurs seek to communicate with potential investors in crowdfunding, while the second part identifies and examines typical stories that are used to convince investors to invest. The result shows that... (More)

The first part of the analysis describes how entrepreneurs seek to communicate with potential investors in crowdfunding, while the second part identifies and examines typical stories that are used to convince investors to invest. The result shows that traditional methods of investor communications are not directly applicable in the sharing economy. To compensate for anonymous communication, storytelling can be used to provoke emotions and to personalise the enterprise, enabling trust formation. Furthermore, storytelling can be used to mediate competence, benevolence, integrity, and shared values – all fundamental elements in trust-building communications. (Less)
