In this thesis we have focused on students in social work at three universities in the southern parts of Sweden. The aim of the study was to examine the students knowledge about, and attitudes towards the refugee situation in august-december of 2015, and also if this knowledge and these attitudes are different in conjunction with the education. There are many previous studies examining attitudes toward refugees and immigration but not so many concerning social work students and especially not in this very special and different situation that the refugee situation of 2015 constitute. To perform the study, 282 surveys where distributed and obtained from students on the first and seventh term of education. Their answers where then analyzed using three different theories: philanthropy, national identity/nationstate and knowledge theory. In this study we found that the social work students in general have positive attitudes toward the refugee situation and also a good knowledge about the same. We also found a slight covariance between knowledge and attitudes and results showed that both attitudes towards and knowledge about the refugee situation change in conjunction with the education.
