- Abstract
- In Sweden, the number of private extracts from the criminal records registry has increased more than five times since 2003. This is largely due to employers’ request for applicants to submit their criminal record if they want to be considered for a job. This is a phenomenon that is intrusive in the applicants’ integrity and it has become a society level problem. The aim of this paper is to describe the process that has led to this problem and to examine the value integrity has on the labor market today. This is almost exclusively affecting the integrity of job applicants and there is nothing they can do about it since they have yet to enter the labor market. This paper shows how useful sociology of law is when certain features of our society need an explanation. (Less)
