Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine what the preventative operation Family
mobilization, that involves both social service and school, contributes with for the
families and the pedagogues that are involved. This regarding similarities and
differences between the intentions and the realization of the operation, together with
the cooperation between the home and the school focusing on participation and the
building of relationships. Another question in this study was whether Family
mobilization contributes to cognitive development in participating children. The study
was based on focus groups with the children and their parents, interviews with the
pedagogues and observations during the meetings of Family mobilization.

The aim of this study was to examine what the preventative operation Family
mobilization, that involves both social service and school, contributes with for the
families and the pedagogues that are involved. This regarding similarities and
differences between the intentions and the realization of the operation, together with
the cooperation between the home and the school focusing on participation and the
building of relationships. Another question in this study was whether Family
mobilization contributes to cognitive development in participating children. The study
was based on focus groups with the children and their parents, interviews with the
pedagogues and observations during the meetings of Family mobilization.
Throughout this and previous research three concepts were identified as important
factors to take into account when assessing the outcome of the operation. These are
empowerment, working alliance and adherence. The analysis was based on these three
perspectives and the findings were that both the participants and the pedagogues were
satisfied with the content of Family mobilization. The parents felt empowered and the
working alliance between the children, parents and pedagogues were strengthened. A
strong working alliance is according to previous research related to positive outcomes
of interventions. During the observations, results were however that the adherence to
the manual regarding the active learning was low. Neither did the social interaction
between the parents occur largely. Cognitive development in participating children
could not be measured due to the methodology used, but was identified as an
important topic for further studies.
