- Abstract
- Even though contraceptives in Sweden are made sure to be easily accessible to women both practically and economically resent research by medical institutions in Sweden shows that the abortion statistics are increasing amongst women aged 24-29. The study implicates that the statistics are related to negative attitudes to-wards hormonal contraceptives amongst these women. In our study we aim to in-vestigate what role communication plays in these findings and how the infor-mation systems around contraceptives can be improved with communicative ef-forts, we look into different information channels, how the misconceptions about contraceptives can be explained and what role media coverage plays. We have conducted a qualitative study of... (More)

We have conducted a qualitative study of interviews with Swedish female aged 23-30 years, midwifes and one medical researcher.
Our results indicates that communication plays a big part concerning how dif-ferent information sources interact, the midwives working progress and the media coverage, how all these influence knowledge and attitude amongst the women. Our conclusions show a complicated system around these women and contracep-tives where both communication efforts from the midwives, media and medical institutions is needed to deal with misconceptions and attitudes.
