- Abstract
- Today it is common that cities develop their old ports to new vibrant neighborhoods.The combination of a good location and a close contact to the ocean makes the harbor area to an important resource for creating attractive cities around the world.
Varberg is a town on the west coast and it has a unique location to the sea. 2013 the Government’s decided that the railroad should go in a tunnel under the city which means that a big barrier in the city will disappear.The industrial harbor will move to the north part of the city and large areas of land will become available for the development of a vibrant new neighbor- hood.
This thesis looks into how the new district can be develop into a modern, vibrant and attractive residential area... This thesis looks into how the new district can be develop into a modern, vibrant and attractive residential area which is good connected to the existing city but at the same time meets the city’s needs.The aim is also to work with different scales, from city scale to detailed plans.
The work consists of a study of known theories, analyzes and a case study where the results are presented as a design proposal for the new district in Varberg. I have chosen to call this new area Bo-Hamnen.The idea is that BoHamnen will be an attractive neighborhood where people want to live, walk and stay. (Less)
