Abstract
What is the future of glasses? The purpose of the project was to answer this question by looking at additive manufacturing, three- dimensional scanning and generative design – as methods to make glasses that better fit users needs. The main function of glasses is to correct refractive error in the eye and for this purpose a clinical optician and a professor in opthalmology were interviewed. A simple analysis of the eyewear market revealed an area worth exploring. Prototypes were made to test initial ideas and develop the design. Computer aided design software was used during the project to both get measurements from the head scan, and shape the product. The result is a design for rimless prescription glasses and a method to fit them to the... (More)
