Abstract
Most previous research on foreign aid has examined the links between aid and economic growth, with tenuous results. I endeavour to estimate the impact of health aid on the health level in the recipient country, proxied by the change in the infant mortality rate, as well as examine what other country-specific factors that affect the efficiency of health aid. My results are in line with my hypothesis: that health aid is statistically significantly and robustly correlated with the health level in the recipient country. This is especially true for countries that have a strong foundation of high institutional quality, which in this context can lead to a conundrum: less developed countries will generally have a greater need for aid, while...
