Abstract
In recent years measurement techniques and equipment have developed well. The new measurement technology has made companies realize that products not are according to drawings. Meanwhile the products still works as planed and can be sold to customers. The reason that the details are not according to drawings can be traced to a surface with narrow angle tolerance.

The project is limited to two small cones and two large cones even when the company has a greater range of similar products.

This paper aims to investigate the angular tolerance on the cones mentioned above. The measuring equipment used to verify the angle in the current situation will be evaluated. Conclusion on a possible change of tolerance should be drawn with respect to... (More)
In recent years measurement techniques and equipment have developed well.

Conclusion on a possible change of tolerance should be drawn with respect to the existing measurement equipment and manufacturing equipment as well as equipment available on the market. Furthermore the study aims to evaluate the effect of the use of cross-functional groups in the selection of tolerances from a quality and manufacturing economic perspective.
They have shown that the tolerances have been around for about 50 years and have been chosen without regard to either manufacturability or measurability. Therefore the drawing can be seen as a requirement space that has never been attained but they still use as it historically has generated a well-functioning product.

To verify the cones, coordinate measuring technique is the most suitable measurement technique. To verify the drawings with the current tolerance an investment in a large portal measuring machine that must be placed in a tempered measuring room for better specification of the measuring machine to be valid is needed.

The paper concluded that the manufacturing method used is not good enough in relation to the current tolerances. It is important to remember that the manufacturing method has generated products with a satisfactory performance for a long time.

The drawing review process that the company has introduced should catch any errors related to the measurability and manufacturability in the future. The tolerances for the products were selected before the process was introduced. In the process consideration should only be taken to changes on drawings and therefore the tolerances remain unchanged.

A new tolerance should be selected on the basis of today's technological conditions linked to manufacturability and measurability so that the part can be manufactured and verified on the basis of the drawing. In order to attain new tolerance one must conclude how the working products geometry are varying and use it as a basis for a change in tolerance. This, combined with the tolerance ranges should not be narrower than the one presented in this paper, so that it is reasonable to machine the part by turning and thus avoid more expensive production methods. Popular Abstract (Swedish)
