- Abstract
- Due to increased immigration over the past decade, Denmark has become more of a multicultural society. This require nurses to have intercultural competencies to provide care to the patient and relatives. It is the responsibility of the emergency nurses to provide a person-centred care whilst ensuring the safety of all patients, no matter their cultural background, and still maintain the integrity and dignity of the patient. The results show that nurses experience language barriers as an obstacle to the patient-nurse relation. The meeting was characterized by the differing perspectives of the nurses vs. the patients in relation to perception and expectations of illness, treatment and the health care system. (Less)
