- Clients perceptions on personal treatment - from social workers´ perspective
The aim of this study was to examine the client perception of six individuals contact with their appointed social workers when applying for social benefits, specifically economic aid. The main themes explored are how clients perceive the initial contact with social workers, how they perceive the ongoing relationships with social workers, and how the clients perceive and interpret those aspects through examining their perception of the communication between them and their social workers. The aim of this study was to examine the client perception of six individuals contact with their appointed social workers when applying for social benefits, specifically economic aid. The main themes explored are how clients perceive the initial contact with social workers, how they perceive the ongoing relationships with social workers, and how the clients perceive and interpret those aspects through examining their perception of the communication between them and their social workers. The method chosen is that of qualitive semi structured interviews. The background is the proclamation of results from studies showing a work environment crisis for social workers, with little or no mentioning of how the impact of that is affecting the clients using the services of social benefits. The theory chosen for applying and analyzing the interviews is communication theory. The overall result is that clients perceive their social workers as moderately or in majority not at all interested of communicating with them as individual clients, the relationships and communication perceived and described by the clients are shallow and in two cases the relationships and communication between clients and their social workers can only be described as offensive and gross in nature.
