Our theoretical perspective was the stigma theory which means that the society put people into categories based on what qualities are seen as natural and not. Addicts belong to a stigmatized group which in turns can result in that their value and rights often are questioned by others who knows little or nothing about addiction and the difficulties that can come with it. The results our study showed was that it would seem like our community permeates with all kinds of stereotypes and preconceptions of individuals using the needle exchange programs. However the preconceptions didn´t solely come from outsiders, sometimes they even came from people who themselves work with health care. (Less)
