Abstract
Now everything is different. Uncertain in a way. We have no idea where we’re going. It seems as if the explanatory models at our disposal aren’t even able to explain where we are today. The world is changing in a pace unprecedented in history. It seems extremely hard to understand how we’re supposed to orient ourselves in such a world. How are we supposed to dream? And what should we dream about? How are we going to have long-term thinking in a world where we can’t even analyse the present?

The world is changing in a pace unprecedented in history. It seems extremely hard to understand how we’re supposed to orient ourselves in such a world. How are we supposed to dream? And what should we dream about? How are we going to have long-term thinking in a world where we can’t even analyse the present?

My thesis project is exploring how architecture can function as a tool for questioning and creating a discussion about the challenges of the world. Instead of the architect being introduced towards the end of the chain, realising what someone else has already decided, I have tried to investigate how the qualities of the architect can be valuable to set the agenda for decision-making. How the architects ideas can be part of discussing ideals.

I have explored these questions by working in the periphery of traditional architecture. With a critical and speculative method I created a scenario that’s exploring a fictive development of our civilisation. It’s a fragmented collection of theoretical texts, short stories, visualisations and quotes that speculate what a conservative development, with a weakness for walls and barriers, would mean for our societies. What challenges and consequences this leads to. (Less)
