The contact family’s mission is to give support and help the child's family and give the child a safe environment. The study was based on qualitative semi structured interviews. Six social workers with experience in using the intervention were interviewed. The material was analysed with the term discretion as an analytic tool. We found that the vague legislation leaves a big space for the social workers interpretation. This leads to that the social workers have a lot discretion and can carry out the intervention in different ways. Therefore, there are a lot of differences between how the social workers in the study use and think about the intervention. We found that all the social workers agreed on that the aim of the intervention is to help the children and that it has to to emanate from the child’s needs. All the social workers had experienced cases where the intervention worked out well but the opinions about what they generally think about the intervention differs between them. Some of the interviewed persons thought that the intervention sometimes is used as an easy way out, instead of putting the child in foster care. (Less)
