Alternativa grönytor i urbana miljöer - en undersökning av möjligheterna att anlägga ängsmark

- Abstract
- During this bachelor thesis I have studied the potential to use meadows as a vegetation type in urban environments instead of the traditional lawn, or amenity grass. The task of this thesis is interesting as the loss of biodiversity is a serious problem for our society, not the least because it threatens many important ecosystem services. In this thesis I have focused on the role of real estate companies to investigate the ability for them to implement meadows within their own real estate.
To collect information, I have interviewed people from three real estate companies which are operative with varying degrees in Scania regarding their views on urban meadow vegetation. The task of this thesis is interesting as the loss of biodiversity is a serious problem for our society, not the least because it threatens many important ecosystem services. In this thesis I have focused on the role of real estate companies to investigate the ability for them to implement meadows within their own real estate.
To collect information, I have interviewed people from three real estate companies which are operative with varying degrees in Scania regarding their views on urban meadow vegetation. I also made an online survey to get the opinions from the public, and to see if there are any underlying factors that affects people’s attitude towards meadows in urban areas. The survey was mainly spread via Facebook. The main results from the survey show that the degree of contact with nature and the interest for the environment are factors that have a positive effect on the attitudes towards urban meadow vegetation. The survey also indicates that the place where people grew up has an effect on the attitudes towards meadows, with people from rural areas being more positive. Among those who prefer the traditional lawn, the main reasons are its practical advantages, e.g. the good possibilities for sport activities and picnic. A commonly stated reason for not wanting meadow vegetation is the fear of tics. Those who preferred the meadows before lawns motivated it with the ecological benefits that the meadows contribute with, and because it is aesthetically appealing. (Less) - Popular Abstract (Swedish)

För att bromsa in den förlust av biologisk mångfald som sker krävs det insatser från samhällets sida. Det finns flera olika lösningar på problemet, men jag har valt att titta på ängsmarken roll som en potential i det urbana områden, eftersom att ängen är en vegetationstyp som är väldigt artrik. I examensarbetet har jag tittat närmare på ̊fastighetsägarnas roll och vad deras svårigheter och möjligheter till att anlägga och sköta ängsmark är. Under mitt examensarbete har jag dels gjort en inledande litteraturstudie på befintlig forskning inom området. Som ett komplement till litteraturstudien har jag också genomfört kvalitativa intervjuer med tre stycken fastighetsföretag som ̈är verksamma i Skane. Jag har ̈aven gjort en enkätundersökning om ängsmark i staden, som allmänheten fått svara på. Svaren från enkätunder- sökningen analyserades senare statistiskt.
Resultat
En stor del av personerna som föredrog den traditionella gräsmattan motiverade sina preferenser med att en gräsmatta är mer inbjudande till fritidsaktiviteter som lek, bollsporter och picknick. Rädslan för fästingar var också en av orsakerna som var återkommande hos de svarande. Av de personer som istället fö ̈redrog ängsmarken framför den traditionella ängsmarken gav motiveringen att det ̈ar ett vackert inslag i staden.
Från intervjuerna framgick det tydligt att anläggandet och skötseln av ängsmark inte sker helt problemfritt. Dom största hindren som fastighetsägarna hade var att marken inte var tillräckligt bra eller för näringsrik för att ängsmark skulle kunna anläggas vid deras bestånd. Fastighetsägarna uttryckte också liknande ̊asikter som svaren från enkätundersökningen angående ängens tillämpbarhet när det kommer till picknick och andra fritidsaktiviteter.
Påverkande faktorer
Det statistiska analysererna visade att de personer som i en större utsträckning kommer i kontakt med naturen, och de personer som har ett större intresse för miljön är mer positivt inställd till ängsmark i den urbana miljön. Det fanns också en tendens som visade att en persons uppväxtmiljö kan påverka preferensen för ängsmark i urban miljö, där personer som varit uppvuxna på landet i större utsrtäckning är positiva till ängsmark än personer som varit uppvuxna i staden.
