- Abstract
- This thesis in the field of sociology of law examines the legal consciousness of
unaccompanied asylum seeking minors. Taking inspiration from Ewick & Silbey
(1998) the theoretical concept of legal consciousness, I trace the presence of law in
the community of the unaccompanied minors in Denmark.

The focus in my thesis lies on exploring how the unaccompanied minors amend,
produce and reproduce their legal knowledge in the asylum system.
This exploratory research adopts a qualitative method of seven semi-structured
interviews with unaccompanied minors in two different children's asylum center
in Jutland, Denmark.
My results show that unaccompanied asylum-seeking exhibit different forms of
legal consciousness. Within this frame, they invoke their legal knowledge based
on what they constructed with the help of different actors. They would amend
their legal knowledge in times of disappointment and uncertainty. Lastly, they
would reproduce their legal knowledge in events of mistrust and resistance to
the legal system. (Less)
