- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to examine the relation between how psychologists perceived their managers as autonomy- and competence supportive in implementing policies and need satisfaction. Furthermore, this study investigated whether these variables could predict work motivation and job demands among psychologists. The study is based on Self-Determination Theory, which emphasizes three innate needs being essential for facilitating human motivation. 164 psychologists employed by county councils in Southern Sweden participated in a survey study. The data was analyzed by a correlational design along with hierarchical multiple regressions. The results showed a significant correlation between autonomy- and competence supportive implementation... (More)

The data was analyzed by a correlational design along with hierarchical multiple regressions. The results showed a significant correlation between autonomy- and competence supportive implementation and need satisfaction, which confirms previous research. Moreover, the result showed that need of competence was an important predictor of autonomous motivation. The study also showed that further education was negatively correlated with controlled motivation. Managers’ autonomy- and competence supportive implementation showed a positive relation with controlled motivation, which has not been demonstrated in previous research. The study contributed to an increased understanding of the importance of satisfying the need for competence among psychologists in achieving increased autonomous motivation. (Less)
- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
