- Abstract
- The aim of this qualitative study was to understand how drug therapists perceive and construct male and female drug abusers. We conducted semi-structured interviews with seven drug therapists. For our analysis, we used a social constructivist approach, based on the gender perspective organizational culture, treatment ideology and social interaction.
The findings of this study revealed that the majority of drug therapists we interviewed could distinguish differences between male and female drug abusers based on typical behavior and needs. There was a consensus among the therapists that willingness to stop abusing and doing it for their own sake was important. Regarding how the therapists in our interviews have commented on the...
