Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Compassion fatigue can affect professionals in health care who work with trauma patients. The symptoms of compassion fatigue are physical, emotional and work- related and include, inter alia, empathic fatigue and reduced ability to carry the suffering of the patients. These qualities affect psychologists in health care. Psychologists are a professional group whose sick leave statistics has increased during the last couple of years. Therefore it is an important profession to study in relation to work-related health. This study examined the relationship between compassion fatigue and social support, compassion satisfaction, work-related demands and decision latitude and perfectionism among psychologists in Sweden. The study also aims to... (More)

Therefore it is an important profession to study in relation to work-related health. This study examined the relationship between compassion fatigue and social support, compassion satisfaction, work-related demands and decision latitude and perfectionism among psychologists in Sweden. The study also aims to examine which of the variables that have largest importance for compassion fatigue. The participants in the study were 384 psychologists. A cross-section design was used and data was collected by using a self-assessment form. Correlation analyzes and a multiple regression analysis were used to examine the relationship between the variables. The result showed that all variables, except positive perfectionism, had a significant relationship with compassion fatigue. Compassion satisfaction, work-related demands, negative perfectionism and social support from colleagues and family proved to be significant predictors for compassion fatigue. No former studies have examined the relationship between compassion fatigue and perfectionism, work-related demands and decision latitude. (Less)
