- Abstract
- This study is written with an aim to explain and analyse how Social Welfare in Sweden works with their methodology in regards of home visiting as an examination, or investigation, with focus on economical relief. This is conducted from a perspective that comprehend leverage, power, help, aid and implemented control. Home visiting is a work method that is used by many municipalities and is described in The National board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) guidelines regarding economic benefits and relief. - This study is written with an aim to explain and analyse how Social Welfare in Sweden works with their methodology in regards of home visiting as an examination, or investigation, with focus on economical relief. This is conducted from a perspective that comprehend leverage, power, help, aid and implemented control. Home visiting is a work method that is used by many municipalities and is described in The National board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) guidelines regarding economic benefits and relief. Hence my interest in conducting a study and understand the methodology closer. The source to the study is an empiric approach via interviews with staff working with home visiting. I choose a qualitative approach in this study. I have interviewed five fulltime employees working for the Social Welfare in Sweden. The interview layout is semi-structured. All five employees have home visiting as one of their working duties and they work in smaller as well as larger municipalities around Sweden. The empiric data in the study is analysed from several theories that relate to leverage and power. The main focus is on Foucault’s studies on power and secondary focus from Skaus and other influencers within the studies of leverage and power. The results in interviews showed that employees conducting home visiting felt that their task as home visitors was to exercise control but they tried to combine their power and control with respect, integrity and service. The interviews also showed that employees whom visit homes have shifted from a control approach, which has been the agreed approach, to a help or aid approach. This has been shifted with clarity from employees with what the aim of the visit is when meeting the client. (Less)
