Abstract
In recent years Swedish social services have experienced increased workload and employee turnover. Eight out of ten social workers experience a high workload. child welfare workers. Furthermore the aim was to detect existing resources for coping with demands and challenges within the profession. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight child welfare workers. The data was analysed with the Demand-control-social support -model by Karasek and Theorell (1990).

The main findings show that factors reinforcing feelings of stress is high
workload, lack of time, instable organisations in combination with a lack of social support, work introduction and development, but also insufficient access of reflection and recuperation. The findings also state that resources such as social support, work introduction, development, opportunities and reflection helped the social workers to cope with work related demands, which lead to reduced feelings of stress.
