- Abstract (Swedish)
- This thesis is a general overlook on the societal benefits of walking infrastructure. It is divided between a literature review; concerning what makes people walk, what benefits this might give and how to place a value on these factors, and an empirical part; researching how evaluating value, and by other means quantifying effects, is used and can be used in the planning of walking infrastructure. The empirical part of the study contains a brief overlook on the practices of three American as well as three Swedish municipalities, and a more in depth-analysis of the specific situation in the municipality of Stockholm. The conclusions of the thesis is that general economic analyses to conclude efficiency of walking infrastructure measures are... (More)
- This thesis is a general overlook on the societal benefits of walking infrastructure. The conclusions of the thesis is that general economic analyses to conclude efficiency of walking infrastructure measures are possible to make, however complicated and likely to be insufficient to base decisions on. This being said, quantifiable measures could have an important role to fill in the future, not least for the cities that has identified improved walking facilities as a targeted goal. For further research, this study suggests in-depth analyses on how the Swedish transport agency is working to improve conditions for walking and the actuality of the practices in Swedish transport economics. It suggests examining current practices and potential for temporary sollutions and after studies in order to reveal value for walking infrastructure. (Less)
