Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The present study was based on previous research that has found connections between email usage and stress-related diseases, such as burnout and emotional exhaustion, as well as an increased daily stress. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether there is a connection between email overload, coping strategies and percieved stress. Further issues on which the study was based was if there is a connection between high email volume, high email work importance and email overload, as well as degree of perceived stress. The study was conducted in the form of a web-based survey which 43 employees in the service sector of a Swedish corporate group answered. The study showed a positive, significant relationship between perceived stress and... (More)

The study showed a positive, significant relationship between perceived stress and email overload, as well as a negative, significant relationship between active coping and stress. Since no other significant correlations were found related to coping, we did not go on with any further analysis to investigate coping in relation to other variables. Suggestions for future studies are that other factors than coping, linked to personality, are investigated in relation to email and stress. To examine more consequences of email usage, negative as well as positive ones, can also be important, since email is a tool frequently used in working life today. (Less)
